Abstract

The Neospora caninum is a cyst former protozoan described few years ago, with great importance in the whole world, being considered the main cause of bovine abortion in some countries of north hemisphere. Although the involvement of this parasite in abortions has been confirmed in the bovine species, in buffaloes its patogenicity is still unknown. Authors cite the importance of bubaline species in the social-economic advance of developing countries and, in Brazil, a new strain have been isolated from adult sorologically positive buffaloes, beyond many sorological surveys confirming that this agent actively circulates in buffalo flocks. Knowing the great developing of bubaline breeding in our country, the importance of neosporosis in bovines, and the high occurrence of seropositive buffaloes, the present project intends to evaluate and compare the consequences of experimental infection by N. caninum in female buffaloes and cows, at the different gestational stages.
