Dynamics of bacterial indicators of water quality and of other physical and chemical parameters of fresh water supply in Jaboticabal SP Brazil, from the source to the consumer

Abstract

Water samples at the fresh water production stage in three systems of water production, water samples posterior to passage through the distribution system and water samples posterior to passage through the reservoir in the consumer's home were analyzed. Current research aimed at understanding the dynamics of bacterial indicators of fecal pollution and of variations in nitrate and turbidity rates. Analyzed parameters consisted of total coliform bacteria, Escherichia coli, mesophyll heterotrophic microorganisms, turbidity and nitrate. Knowledge of the critical contamination sites in the water production chain used by humans is of paramount importance for the implementation of a water quality control project. It is expected that results of current research may help in the establishment of this important tool so that the consumer population may receive water supply without any health risks. (AU)
