Abstract

It is well established that disruptions of GABAergic or glutamatergic neurotransmissions have been linked to epilepsy and other psychiatric and neurological diseases. Many cerebral structures and pathways are recruited on the development and permanence of audiogenic epileptic crisis. In this work, we intend to characterize the neurobiological events occurring on Wistar audiogenic rats. Thus, synaptosomal GABAergic/glutamatergic uptake and release will be accessed from inferior colliculus, hippocampus and substantia nigra from animals stimulated or not by acoustic stimulus. Imunuhistochemistry and molecular techniques will be used to better access those synaptic structures (GABAergic/glutamatergic transporters and receptors) probably involved on elicited neurochemical responses. These studies are of relevance by providing a better understanding of neurobiological mechanisms involved in epileptic brain and then for possible development of new neuropharmacological and therapeutic approaches.
