Abstract

The design of discrete ordered arrays of metalloporphyrins and metallophthalocyanines as building blocks has received much current attention. The interest in this kind of materials raises from their response to macroscopic effects, such as magnetic, electric or electromagnetic fields interaction or even from other chemical substances. Among the properties exhibited by these new materials the electronic conductivity is one of the most important focus to materials science research. Synthetic procedures with specific arrangement of porphyrin/phthalocyanine moieties lead to a new class of polymers under intense investigation in our days. Until recently, the use of multidentate ligand with more than one atom as the intermolecular bridge of oligomeric porphyrins or phthalocynines was rare. In the late 70”s Hanack started to prepare such kind of polymers using metallophthalocyanines and Collman reported similar polymers with metalloporphyrins. These new metal complexes polymers showed very interesting conducting properties as well as a lot of new properties. This project intends to synthesize and characterize oligomeric metallophthalocanine/metalloporphyrin mixed complexes, self-assembled through coordination of metal ion, using multidentate ligands as spacers, and to investigate the effect of each macrocycle over the electronic properties of these new materials. The goal is to develop new nanostructured photoconductors materials. (AU)
