Abstract

With a collection of 100,000 volumes of journals and 15,000 books, the library of the Instituto Biológico is one of the largest research institutes of the Department of Agriculture of the State of São Paulo. Since 2012 the library is undergoing a reorganization that included hiring a new librarian who has been making several improvements of the service to users and access to the collection. One of the goals is to acquire a software library management (Sophia) to facilitate any technical processing (cataloging, indexing, classification). Such software will expend less time from the library staff and will facilitate access to information and bibliographic material. The lending activities, control and acquisition of bibliographic material, printing catalogs and labels will be streamlined, and promote the visibility of the scientific production of the Institute for other institutions and interested public.
