Arquigrafia: Phase II iconographic studies on urban and architectural spaces on collaborative environment at the web 2.0

Abstract

This research will deepen iconographic studies on digital architectural and urban spaces representation based on the Arquigrafia Social Network, investigating aspects related to the interpretation of images, as well as conceptual and methodological issues related to the continuous construction of a collective collection, and to the dynamics of using this collaborative environment. The multidisciplinary research team - that gathers researchers from FAUUSP, IMEUSP, ECAUSP e FDUSP -, works together since 2009 and now holds the Web Collaborative Environment Research Support Center NaWEB. In this PHASE II of the project the team intends to improve procedures on User-Centered Design (UCD), Design of Interaction (IxD), and evaluation of usability aiming to improve and extend the interpretation and judgment study over images of architecture in an interactive and dynamic Web 2.0 environment. The project will continue the ongoing digitalization of the 37 thousand slides collection of the FAUUSP's Library, and will initiate the experimental insertion of other photographic and videographic collections also based on the same Library, which is the most expressive Brazilian archive on architecture and urbanism. By gathering together institutional and particular image collections, Arquigrafia conforms an unique network that can congregate and promote interactions between thousands of researchers all around the world, as a useful scientific research and knowledge building laboratory, set at the confluence of complementary research themes such as architectural representations, web collaborative environment design, systems programming, free and open source software development, users-centered design methodologies, and legal issues. The convergence of these complementary approaches brings a significant contribution for scientific and technological development on the knowledge about dynamic collaborative environments, and stimulates the improvement of the architectural and urbanistic culture based on the dialogue and interaction between students, professors, researchers, and professionals, as they can share views, aesthetic judgments, information, and opinions over an original digital images collection.
