Methods comparison for analysis Genotypes x Environments interaction in corn (Zea mays L)

Abstract

In the final phase of one program of breeding of plants, between them the maize (Zea mayz L.), the evaluation of the performance to cultivate in some environments (local, years and times) has been carried through in order to verify its distinguishing behavior, in face of the ambient variations. This distinguishing behavior is attributed to the genotypes x environments (GxA) interaction and its existence demands of the melhorista detailed study of the behavior of cultivating them, by means of the analysis of adaptability and stability, to guarantee greater security to the indications to cultivate. Diverse methodologies had been developed in the direction to understand the GxA interaction better. Interesting it is that the methods supply the same information in indication terms to cultivate, or either, they have high degree of agreement in relation to the adaptability parameters and stability. In this in case that, the choice of the method must fall again into that one of simple execution and easy interpretation. However, in case that it has discord between the methods, the indication to cultivate starts to depend on the used method, having necessity of choice of the method most efficient. The data of productivity of maize grains, gotten in competition assays to cultivate, lead in the State of the Rio Grande Do Sul, agricultural years 2002/2003, 2003/2004 and 2004/2005, will be used with the following objectives: i) to apply and to compare the methods of adaptability analysis and stability (advantages and disadvantages) in the evaluation of the genotypes x environments interaction; ii) to evaluate the agreements and discords of the methods how much the classification of the genotypes in adaptability and stability and iii) to evaluate the sensitivity of the methods in the interaction identification genotypes x environments important .
