Abstract

The present piece of research is intended to set up and develop SISOFT 14001 software, an information technology tool intended to offer the following facility: to set up an environmental management system (EMS) in a company, step by step; to manage the daily tasks required by the EMS through an automated tracking and documentation system; to create an audit (due-diligence) system; to facilitate the online exchange of information within the organization, and to facilitate the management decision-making process. Sispamte software, developed and sold by the company Sensora Sensoriamento e Geoprocessamento, will be used as the basis. This is a system for recording data and producing cartographically referenced information and it is noted for its logical structure and ease of use. The implementation of an EMS brings various advantages, among which are: credibility, lower risk, and less pollution; increased profit margins, and an improvement to the internal management system. ISO 14001 standard supplies the specifications for developing an environmental management system, consisting of establishing and maintaining a policy with a commitment and strict adherence to environmental conservation; developing a plan taking into account all the aspects of the organization and current legislation; implementing a program to attain the plan’s targets and goals; establishing procedures to monitor the organization’s environmental performance and its compliance with established policy.
