Abstract

This research is a follow-up from the previous doctoral thesis "Principles of Frank Lloyd Wright's Organic Architecture and its influence on Modern Architecture in São Paulo, Brazil", currently expanded as a research project of the author, now a faculty member of the University of São Paulo since 2005. The PhD research addresses a rich but seldom discussed subject in the realm of Brazilian Architetural History: the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture, and the principles ruling Wright's concept of organic architecture, in Modern Brazilian Architecture. Furthermore, this research investigates how Frank Lloyd Wright's designs and texts helped shape many outstanding Brazilian modern architects since the 1950s, all of whom eventually rose to prominence. Furthermore, this doctoral thesis tried to depict the continuity and change in the organic-influenced Brazilian Modern architecture as it is becoming more regionally-aware in approach and more environmentally conscious in scope.Further research carried out since 2005 revealed some interesting sources and lines of investigation that led to fresh historical evidence linking Frank Lloyd Wright's works and ideas to Brazilian and Japanese-Brazilian architects in the 1930-50s. In order to investigate these links, a field research travel to the U.S. is deeply needed. (AU)
