Building the maternal and child healthcare network in Araraquara (DRS III): primary care as the organizing principle of healthcare

Abstract

The object of research is the maternal and child healthcare network which is currently being established by the Regional Health Department III (Araraquara) in alt four regions of its administration. The subject emerged from the process of settling goals which could fulfill the needs of the cities. One of them is finding ways to cope with the present ratings of mother and infant mortality, along with an improvement the quality of healthcare. The project aims at following and analyzing the creation of this network in Araraquara by having primary care as the organizing principle of healthcare. The project will develop as a "research-intervention" - that is to say, a process which simultaneously combines generating knowledge and changing the reality. It is a result of the interaction between researches, subjects and objects of research. The researchers will conduct an analysis of documents concerning the maternal and child healthcare network in all the cities of the region, employing the technique of thematical content analysis. The subjects will be the professionals operating the maternal and child healthcare network in cities under the administration of DRS-III Araraquara. "Research-intervention" uses cartography as its theoretical and methodological paradigm which is supported by authors in the field of institutional analysis. Researchers will follow four regional groups for a period of one year, conducting monthly meetings with its participants. The theoretical reference of the research are the concepts of primary healthcare as an organizing principle of healthcare, healthcare network, an institucionalist movement The team responsible for this project has been working together for some time, since the creation of a regional research group that obtained approval of FAPESP in 2009, PPSUS -SP - Process FAPESP 2009/53139-0, and strenqthening the production of knowledge to SUS.
