Abstract

In this project, it is proposed the processing and study of properties of lead free magnetoelectric laminated composites, consisting of one Lix(Na0.5K0.5)1-xTayNb1-yO3 based piezoelectric phase and one CoFe2O4 based magnetostrictive phase, which have a real possibility (cost and performance) to replace magnetoelectric composites containing lead, nickel and other highly toxic elements in their structure. The aim of the proposal is to optimize the appropriate composite properties in order to maximize the magnetoelectric response, by improving the processing conditions and by adding doping elements to the structure. The composites with 2-2 type connectivity will be prepared from thick films (with thickness between 20 and 100µm), by means of Tape Casting technique, which enable the layer thickness control and the deposition of several layers with uniformed and controlled shape. As a result of this project it is expected to establish a relationship between the magnetoelectric response of the composites and: the chemical composition of constituents phases, the preparing condition of constituents phases and the preparing conditions of the composites. In this way, it will be possible to maximize the relevant properties of the constituent phases and then, to optimize the magnetoelectric response of the studied composites. The success of this proposal will certainly contribute to the strengthening of research lines related to the obtaining of new magnetoelectric composites, and with the study of new lead-free and environmentally friendly piezoelectric and magnetoelectric materials. The results will be disseminated and assessed in national and international scientific conferences; by publishing manuscripts in high impact international journals; and with the orientation and training of new human resources (scientific initiation students, Masters and PhD Degree).
