Abstract

Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy will be used as a tool for the investigation of transport phenomena of chemical species by mechanisms involving diffusion. Particular interest will be addressed to studies involving the transport of chemical species in lipid membranes and dentin, as well as investigations of the reaction mechanism and transport of the endogenous antioxidant glutathione through the membrane of eukaryotic cells exposed to oxidative stress situations. The experimental data will be analyzed by using a simulation software according to existing theories for the diffusion in pores and membranes. Additionally, studies on the effect of chloride on corrosion of steel and the role of inhibitors in this process will also be carried out. (AU)
