Occurrence of fumonisins and zearalenone in complete diets for dairy cattle subjected to intensive production systems

Abstract

The use of preserved foods as silage, particularly corn silage, and concentrate according to production level dairy cow raises the risk of exposure of the animals to more than one micotoxiton present in the diet. The objective is to evaluate the occurrence of zearalenone and fumonisin in complete diets offered to dairy cows subjected to intensive management in dairy production in the state of São Paulo. Complete diets (forage: concentrate, 50/50) will be evaluated in nine dairy farms, seven farms in the region of Campinas, and two dairy farms located in Ribeirão Preto. The bulky offered are conserved as silage or cane raw and chopped grass. The samples collected diets will be held every 15 days, two sampling at intervals of 24 hours, in the morning, shortly after the deal done by the employee of the farm, for a period of 45 days. The sampling will be carried out directly from the trough corresponding to the largest batch of milk production and corresponding to 15 lactating cows. Samples of diets will be assessed for water activity and presence of zearalenone and fumonisin B1 B2 by liquid chromatography purification with immunoaffinity columns. (AU)
