Abstract

We aim at designing new organic catalysts capable of performing hydrogen bonding activation (such as thiourea derivatives, and others). The use of such catalysts for the construction of enantioenriched alkynes and beta-aminoacids via the 1,4-addition of isoxazolones to Michael acceptors/ nucleophilic addition to alkylidene isoxazolones; the synthesis of fluorinated and trifluoromethylated alkynes; and the synthesis of allenes will be investigated. The use of the trifluoromethylation strategy will be explored to access a potent drug employed against the HIV virus, Efavirenz. (AU)
