Abstract

The draw reins have been used to auxiliary exercise routines for working in engagement and dorsal muscles of horses, to decrease the time required training. Currently, the training carried out in athletic horses, are based on the study of the "science of riding," which for many centuries has been transmitted from parents to children, and yet intuitive and empirical. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate the use of Pessoa's rein in comparison to simple rein in training of horses on the linear biomechanical and muscular biometry variables. Will be used twelve equine athletes will be divided into two treatments, simple rein (control group) and Pessoa's rein. The horses will be trained twice a week for three months and the experimental design will be randomized with six replications per treatment. The variables will be measured before the start of the experiment and three months after training. Evaluations of the variables linear kinematic, stride length (cm) and tracking length (cm), which assesses the degree of engagement of hind limbs, and muscular biometry, longissimus dorsi muscle thickness (cm) and the cross-sectional area (cm2) of the gluteus medius, biceps femoris, semitendinosus and musculus multifidus. The variables will be evaluated for normality of distribution using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and the variables were not normally distributed will be transformed into log. The coefficient of variation will be express the amount of variability in the variable. Variables related to linear biomechanics and muscular biometry will undergo analysis of variance of the software Statistical Analysis System (SAS, 2000). Comparisons will be made between means by Tukey test. For the variables obtained before and after in the same horse will be compared using the "t" test. The will use statistical probability of 5%.
