Teachers and their students with disabilities in school: a study on teaching relations in the cultural-historical perspective

Abstract

This proposal brings together studies that focus on teaching relationships developed between teachers and students with different kinds of disability, such as blindness, low vision, deafness, intellectual disability, and autism. All studies are based on the assumption that the subjects are constituted by the relationships they establish with others in their social groups and that teaching relations involve the production of senses and meanings. The common point between all subprojects is the research on teaching relationships and the processes of meaning experienced by teachers and students with disabilities in school. The researchers take as reference the cultural-historical theory of Vygotsky and studies of contemporary authors who take this author's ideas on the social genesis of higher mental functions and the relationship between development and learning. The procedures planned for these projects involve the observation of classroom situations and teacher meetings. The events will be videotaped and later transcribed. In line with the theoretical matrix, observation data (directly or videotaped) will be built under the guidelines of microgenetic analysis. We understand that these reflections can contribute to change the teachers actions in the process of teaching to students with disabilities. Thus, the aim is to expand knowledge while contributing directly to the teaching-learning process in school practice. (AU)
