Abstract

Currently the hatchery technology of the Amazon river prawn Macrobrachium amazonicum is almost totally stated. However, further studies are needed to increase productivity and reduce production costs, in order to stimulate the commercial production in Brazil. This research aims to study the feeding management with inert and live food, to maximize the utilization of diet by the larvae, as well as to evaluate the effect of the adult presence inside the larval rearing tank as metamorphosis inducing factor. The three experiments will be carried out in the Crustacean Laboratory of Pirassununga UPD, as follows: Experiment 1 - Time of feeding on Artemia; Experiment 2 - Frequency of inert food supply and Experiment 3 - Influence of the presence of adult prawns inside the larvae tanks, as metamorphosis inducing factor. The treatments in each experiment will be: Experiment 1 - Supply of Artemia at 7:30 (T1), 12:00 (T2) and 16:30 h (T3); Experiment 2 - Feeding at 08:00 and 17:00 h (T1), 08:00, 12:30 and 17:00 h (T2) and 08:00, 11:00, 14:00 and 17:00 h (T3); Experiment 3 - Complete cycle without the presence of adults (T1-control), adults inside the larvae tanks from the sixth larval stage (T2) and adults inside the larval rearing tanks from the ninth larval stage (T3). The design of each experiment will be completed randomized with three treatments and five replicates. The time of larval development, growth, survival, productivity, wet weight and weight gain of larvae and post-larvae will be compared among the treatments in the three experiments. (AU)
