Density functional theory and applications to solids and cold atoms systems

Abstract

We propose the construction, comparison and application of density functionals for DFT calculations, within both local and non-local approximations, in order to investigate entanglement and exotic superfluidity in solids and cold atoms systems. A quantitative description of the mapping between wave function and density, predicted by the Hohenberg-Kohn theorem, will be provided and used for testing the efficiency of density functionals. A comparative study among several existing entanglement measures will be performed, as well as new density functionals for non-local approximations will be constructed. These results will be then applied to the investigation of entanglement and inhomogeneous superfluidity in nanostructures, disordered and cold atoms systems. (AU)
