Abstract

This proposal aims to equip the of Foundry and Thixoforming Laboratory at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering / UNICAMP with an inductive melting furnace 40kW 20kHz capable of producing up to 2.6 liters of liquid metal (especially aluminium-silicon alloys and cast iron, both hypoeutectic). The main objective is to facilitate the production and characterization of the alloys patented by the laboratory for specific use in thixoforming. Currently the lab has a 9kW resistive furnace type which is insufficient to carry out the experiments on the scale required. This equipment will support four PhD theses and six dissertations in progress, and project will provide, in addition to the above mentioned equipment, a Vickers hardness tester for characterization of cast products as well as consumables materials for the full realization of the work.
