Abstract

This research project is proposed with the aim of developing and applying of a quantitative methodology for the design of complex systems, considering the reliability of the equipments and the applied tools, as well as the reliability of the operators of the system. Thus, this research project deals with the evaluation of the reliability of solutions and their use in a design philosophy based on risk. As results, it is expected to present a design procedure that gradually improves the reliability of the solution, i.e., to change its characteristics during the design stage to reduce their likelihood of failure, considering operational characteristics and maintenance, even at conceptual design phase. This should allow reasonable estimates of the costs associated with these characteristics, which will be explored during the process of choosing the solution. (AU)
