Who are the women who seek treatment for chemical dependency? Specialized center's user profile characterization

Abstract

Considering the scarcity of studies related to the problems arising from the use of psychoactive substances among women, the increase in the number of women who have sought treatment and the magnitude of this problem in this population health this study aims to characterize the socio-demographic, clinical and and behavioral profile of alcohol and drugs addicted women who sought treatment in a specialized center of the State of São Paulo in Brazil. It is a retrospective cohort study. The population consisted of 1678 medical records. The inclusion criteria were had sought the center seeking treatment for the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs spontaneously between January 1, 2002 and December 31, 2010. Were excluded from the medical records of women who sought treatment for obesity, other mental disorders and the medical records of users forwarded judicially. Exclusion criteria applied, the cohort consisted of 1066 medical records. The secondary data were obtained from the information contained in medical records of patients, and the data were collected through a questionnaire pre-drawn and grouped into three categories: sociodemographic, behavioral and clinics charactreistics . In the case of treatment for smoking-related Fragström test information were also collected. In addition, was rated the period in which they attended the center, the date of the first visit and the last day that attended the service. (AU)
