Abstract

The advent of new techniques of functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Diffusion, for example, also have expanded the use of this tool in the evaluation of patients with chest injuries as well as procedures guided by this technique. Diffusion allows adding the morphological conventional biomolecular aspects of tumor behavior similar to what occurs with PET / CT. The use of Diffusion allows qualitative and quantitative characterization of lesions possible to indicate the diagnosis of benignity or malignancy is favored. Benign lesions usually do not show signs of restriction on diffusion of water molecules, thus will lose signal in this sequence (with high b values) with corresponding increase in the levels of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). On the other hand, malignant neoplasms will show clear signs of restriction on diffusion of water molecules secondary to cell proliferation, maintenance of high signal occurring in this sequence (with high b values) with corresponding reduction in the levels of ADC. Because it is in the equipment available at the Hospital AC Camargo, the MRI and PET / CT can act as tools that improve the performance of biopsies trantorácicas guided by imaging methods. They can help identify sites of intra-lesional activities that best represent the true biological behavior of the lesion, thereby providing the proper collection of material for biomolecular analysis, impacting decisively in the therapeutic management of these patients. For these reasons, our proposal is to conduct a study in order to evaluate the use of biomolecular image by PET / CT and Diffusion MRI in guiding procedures transthoracic patient suffering from thoracic lesions suspicious of malignancy.
