Security system implementation on computer network FAMERPNET

Abstract

Is consensus that in several segments and areas of work, including the educational, the information technology (IT) plays an important role in the organizations. Some authors, like Falconi, highlight that IT can influence and bring change in institutions, including the organization of its functional structure and consequently in activities that people perform (FALCONI, 2004). The Educational institutions around the world, has been constantly challenged in recent decades, to promote changes to accommodate the expectations of a new generation of students, who were called "digital natives", popularly also known as Generation Y. These students are very familiar with IT, is the use of devices such as smartphones, tablets and notebooks, is the operation of sophisticated applications for collaboration and access to content networks. The internet seems to be a big motivating and causing this revolution with the advent of web 2.0, as pointed out by O'Reilly major milestone occurred in the first decade of the 21st Century (O'REILLY, 2005). In contrast to these students, teachers in higher education institutions do not seem to follow the same speed the changes brought about by the era of connectivity we currently live. One of the alternatives mentioned by Weller's continued investment in IT and teacher training (WELLER 2013). This project moves the first line of action, investment in IT, and finds motivation in the opportunity to offer content and internet access with quality and especially security. By allowing an action constant monitoring of a computer network, ensuring that it is free from internal and external cyber threats, there is room for the development of new projects that include the second line of action, the training of teachers. Insofar as it is a good network infrastructure, safely, you can get a supply of content and applications that meet the teachers and consequently also support students in this new generation. The computer network that will be used for the development of this project is the FAMEPNET, which is located in the Faculdade de Medicina de São José do Rio Preto (FAMERP). By definition, it is the network operating system making the integrated management of all FAMERP IT services and applications: internet access, Portal Capes, Famerp Virtual, Sistema de Gestão FAMERP (SGF) , e-mail, intranet, antivírus, among others. The FAMERPNET has more than 600 computers connected to it and serves approximately 03 (three) thousand users, among undergraduates and graduate, teachers and FAMERP staff. The solution found by the IT technical staff of the institution to meet the main goal of this project is to acquire a "security network equipment" (SNE). This class of equipment allows to provide greater security and control over data exchanged in a network of large computers, by hardware specifically developed for this purpose. Hopefully, with this project, deploy the SNE and thus obtain a secure network infrastructure and high performance, offering new benefits such as: prioritizing educational and scientific content, faster access and confident teachers and students, full integration with wireless networking, virus protection and several other cyber threats, further support to the IT team for solving problems and contingencies in this area, among others.
