Abstract

Reliable water content estimation in soil, especially in the rhizosphere, are essential for the proper management of agricultural production, as well as applies rational use of water. Furthermore, the impacts inherent to inadequate water/nutrients management in this system can cause: contamination of water sources, the waste of financial resource acquisition and excessive application of nutrients through irrigation water and the acceleration of soil salinization resulting from accumulation salts in your profile. Thus, knowledge of the nutrients concentration in the soil solution, near the root and throughout the development of culture, represent important information for the correct management of fertigation. The procedures modeling involved can often be used as an alternative to experimentation. Among the many highlights models stand the SWAP and HYDRUS. However, simulations to obtain reliable accurate knowledge is required of the physical properties of the soil, which may be determined in laboratory or through data field. Another aspect limiting the application of modeling is a lack of sensors that inform the soil matric potential real-time automated fashion. The technique of Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) has proved to be an important tool for this purpose. TDR has been used to evaluate the movement of solutes in the soil and with the calibration and appropriate methodology has been used as an excellent tool to study the dynamics of the soil solution.
