Abstract

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a critical area for the hospitalization of patients with serious conditions, which require professional attention specializing in a continuous manner, specific materials and technologies necessary for the diagnosis, monitoring and therapy; therefore, it is considered a local stress generator, in which patients have physical and psychological discomforts arising from environmental characteristics, characterized by large number of equipment, professionals and procedures that often disrupt the circadian cycle, causing loss of sleep and the well-being of patients. In its turn, the stressors present in ICU influence homeostasis, conceptualized as the situation in which organic attributes such as blood pressure, warning level and the muscular tonus remain constant or change appropriately in response to different situations. Therefore, we believe that the knowledge about the main stressors perceived by patients in a specialized ICU of the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery is a vital tool for the planning of nursing care, considered of high complexity and specialized, with the aim of minimizing harmful consequences to hemodynamic instability of these critical patients. General Objective: to evaluate the relationship between the perception of stressors and hemodynamic instability of patients in the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery, as well as investigate if the presence of anxiety and depression in pre-operative influence perception of stressors. Methodology: this was an observational study, a randomized prospective, which will be carried out in Hospitalization Units of the Surgical Clinic, Medical Clinic and in Post-operative Unit of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery of Hospital das Clinicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirao Preto (HCFMRP - USP). A sample of convenience will be formed by patients of both genders, with age above 18 years, regardless of social class and race, which will be submitted to cardiac surgery elective myocardial revascularization and/or surgery for correction of valvulopathies, in pre- and postoperative periods. Will be assessed the sociodemographic and clinical characterization of patients, by means of an instrument drawn up for this purpose. For the measurement of anxiety and depression, pre-operative instrument will utilize the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), in its version adapted to the Portuguese. For the assessment of stressors perceived in the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery will utilize the "Scale of Assessment of Stressors in Intensive Care Unit" (Environmental Stressor Questionnaire - ESQ), in version adapted to the Portuguese. We will use the Program Statistical Package Social Science (SPSS) version 21.0 , for descriptive analysis of the variables of the study. (AU)
