Michel Roux and the studies of dystrophin in the central nervous system

Abstract

The aim of the present project is to compare the results of the vision of patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), evaluated by researchers from the Vision Lab of the Institute of Psychology of the University of São Paulo with the investigation of different isoforms of dystrophin in the retina of mice of a group of French researchers. The idea is to compare the molecular results obtained with animal models and the physiological outcomes and visual perception data obtained in tests on DMD patients. The DMD mice models will performe the same electrophysiological protocols used to evaluate the different visual pathways of DMD patients. We hope that this project will provide new information about the molecular basis of visual alterations found in DMD patients and also contribute to our knowledge about the physiology of the different visual pathways.
