Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare the contribution of using a standardized language system (SLP) or free language (LL) for nursing intervention (IE) documentation using on risk factor control and the occurrence of selected cardiovascular outcomes in outpatients with type 2 diabetes (DM2). This is a prospective, longitudinal, descriptive and correlational study, with a quantitative approach, which will be conducted in two phases. In the 1st phase of this study researcher will identify the relevant IE for the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with DM2, through expert opinion. Experts will be selected according Fehring's adapted criteria. They will analyze the relevance of each IE to prevent cardiovascular events through a 5-point Likert-type scale. For each response option will correspond a weight and the IE which achieve a mean > 0.80 will be considered relevant. In the 2nd phase researcher will analyze the association between the documentation of relevant IE using SLP or LL and selected outcomes. Data will be collected from medical records of all patients with DM2, aged 18 to 60, which are attended in nursing consultation in 2 outpatient clinics (SLP is used to document IE in only one of them), in a 3 months period (inclusion) and after 6 and 12 months. LL documented IE will be analyzed through cross-mapping. Variables will be analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics. (AU)
