Intraoperative and anesthetic-related cardiac arrest: a systematic review with meta-analysis and meta-regression

Abstract

Although surgery and anesthesia become safer over time, a systematic analysis of overall cardiac arrest (CA) intraoperative and anesthesia-related incidence or not is not yet performed. The objective is to determine cardiac arrest incidence of intraoperative and anesthesia-related through a systematic review with meta-analysis and proportional meta-regression analysis. The study will seek to answer the following questions: (i) there was a progressive reduction in the intraoperative and anesthesia-related CA incidence during the course of the years, regardless of the classification of the Human Development Index (HDI) countries set by the World Health Organization? (ii) the intraoperative and anesthesia-related CA incidence are lower in countries with HDI e 0.8 when compared to countries with HDI <0.8? The following databases will be searched: MEDLINE, EMBASE, LILACS and SciELO. Will be performed meta-analysis with the following inclusion criteria: (i) patients undergoing any surgical procedure involving anesthesia in the hospital setting, (ii) intraoperative and anesthesia-related CA incidence, (iii) articles without language restriction and year publication that evaluated 3,000 patients e population, and (iv) studies with cross-cutting nature. It will be performed meta-regression analysis to determine if the rates of CAs have changed over time. Subgroup analyzes will be performed according to year of occurrence of CA (ie, pre-1990 vs. 1990-2013) and the HDI. (AU)
