Abstract

This book presents the findings from a research conducted under the financial support of the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) that initially aims to characterizing the multiples regulation logics concerned with access and consumption of health services going far beyond government regulatory processes. This two-staged, qualitative-based research we developed in two cities of the so-called ABCD Paulista Region, in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. The first stage includes interviews carried out with strategic actors (managers and politicians) and key-actors (workers). In the second stage deals with the stories of (18) people who use health care services on a very frequent scale. The study shows how users possible consumption regulatory systems were characterized (governmental, professional, clients and non-professional), pointing to the fact, that regulation stands for a field under permanent dispute a social production. The study shows how users, through their non-professional action powers, are able to produce health care maps, including the surprising promotion of connections and supplementations involving both public and private subsystems, which point to other possible health care systems arrangements. This represents an invitation to experience heath care co-management, involving health teams and users, as a promising way to the pressing need for the reinvention of Heath. (AU)
