Abstract

Professor Maria Helena Raposo Fernandes will give a course called metabolism and bone regeneration that is part of all subjects of the Multicenter Graduate Program in Physiological Sciences. This course is held every two years, and in 2012 Professor Maria Helena was in the Faculty of Dentistry of Araçatuba teaching the course for the first time. This visit was made at my request, since in June 2011 I went to visit her at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Porto, where we began collaborating on a project to evaluate the mechanisms involved in cell migration into the peritoneal cavity of mice induced by nanoparticle hydroxyapatite. This project is underway with experiments being conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry-UNESP Araçatuba and Faculty of Dental Medicine, University of Porto. As Professor Maria Helena has extensive experience in the area of bone metabolism with a large amount of papers published in this line of research, we initiated a collaboration in this area in our lab with two graduate students and post-doctoral.
