Abstract

The long time required to perform a conventional creep test for is an inconvenience factor in application of geosynthetics in projects of soil reinforcement. To remedy this problem, the conventional mode is being increasingly replaced by the accelerated method, which uses the temperature increase in the test environment, the Stepped Isothermal Method (SIM). The aim of this research is to compare the results obtained by these two methods, through statistical analysis and the implantation of new equipment for the realization of the SIM method in Geosynthetic Laboratory of University of Sao Paulo. Two types of nonwoven geotextiles type Polyester will be tested, that due to their fabrication process must show a considerable variation in the values of the physical and mechanic properties. The purpose is to analyze the loading levels of 10, 20, 40, 60 and 90% of the load which causes creep or creep rupture. Based on the partial reduction in tension to creep factor will analyze the influence of this factor on the probability of failure of soil reinforced with geotextiles. (AU)
