Dc/ac converters connected to unbalanced distribution systems: analysis considering Negative- and Zero-Sequence voltage components

Abstract

In near future distribution grids will comprise alternative sources, such as wind, photovoltaic and fuel cells and by many nonlinear loads, both unbalanced three-phase and single-phase. These alternative sources must be connected to the power system through a DC/AC voltage source converter (VSC) and many of these sources will be single-phase. Thus, it is expected a significant increase in the unbalanced voltage and harmonic distortion in such grid, which imposes serious restrictions to control the alternative sources converters connected to the grid, due to the double frequency ripple on the DC side of these converters. The researchers studied this problem caused by the negative-sequence component. In the present proposal will be considered in the converter modeling unbalanced voltages which generates the negative- and zero-sequence components.In the described context arises the main objective of this proposal: the study and the development of analytical models of the phenomena caused by unbalanced voltage and also by harmonic distortion in a three-phase VSC converter connected to a grid. This study considers the ripple voltage on its DC side and the generation of harmonic on its AC side due to the ripple on the DC side. This study will produce subsides for the development of techniques for the design and control of converters, allowing mitigation of DC side oscillating voltage (ripple) and harmonic distortion caused by the unbalanced voltage. With this, we expect to contribute with methods to ensure the grid power quality even when energy is injected by these converters. (AU)
