Abstract

Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Fusobacterium nucleatum belong to the oral resident microbiota. These gram-negative oral bacteria are implicated in the development and progression of the periodontal disease. In this study, 1) the occurrence of A. actinomycetemcomitans and F. nucleatum in healthy subjects and patients with gingivitis and chronic periodontitis; 2) the occurrence of biotypes and serotypes of A. actinomycetemcomitans; 3) the quantitative determination both microorganisms from the three patient's groups; and 4) the determination of the genetic diversity profile of both A. actinomycetemcomitans and F. nucleatum will be determined. This study is important because the results will take a better knowledge about ecological aspects and the role of these periodontopathogens in the development and progression of the periodontal disease.
