Abstract

This project aims at understanding and analyzing the métier of the literacy teacher considering the multiple dimensions and constraints that constitute the teaching activities, with special emphasis on the technical and semiotical tools, on the means and resources available to the teacher for performing his/her work. The comprehension of the métier of the literacy teacher requires the analysis of this role as mediated by a set of procedures and materials - means and resources made available at work, which include didactic and literacy curricular proposals - technical and semiotical instruments that mediate and make effective their insertion into the working practices and the historical-cultural relations. Considering the cultural-historical perspective (Vygotsky and Bakhtin) and studies of the French ergonomics for analysis of the work (Clot, Bronckart and Machado and others), this research, whose focus is on the work of the literacy teacher, plans to collect empirical data by observing teachers in the early grades of elementary classes in a public school. The data collection will be realized through the analysis of school documents, observation of classroom activities and interviews with teachers. As to the results of the project, it is expected that the comprehension and analysis of the dimensions that constitute the work of the teachers can contribute to understand of the complexity of the métier of the (literacy) teachers as an activity that is built daily, in close relation to the technical and semiotic tools made available to them.
