Identify, isolate and functionally characterize stromal cells derived of human lymph nodes

Abstract

Lymph nodes are 400 small organs distributed along the body and play an import role in tolerance and immune response. These small organs are composed by a variety of cells, among these cells are the stromal cells, although scarcely studied they seems to play an important role in immunemodulation and peripheral tolerance. On the other hand, stromal cells derived from bone marrow have a performance in immunomodulation and has been used in graft versus host disease clinical trials. Our hypothesis is that stromal cells from lymph nodes has similar role as bone marrow mesenchymal cells, mainly in presence of an immune response already in course, behaving as sensors and switcher of immune response, not only interfering in modulation as well in survival and traffic of different cells from the immune system. The knowledge acquired studding the biology and function of these cells can provide better understanding of diseases such as GVHD, autoimmunity and infections. (AU)
