Abstract

The Institute of Education has grown, throughout the years, without being able to give adequate support to the many research groups in the implementation of appropriate information and communication technologies. Each group, in its own way, has sought to resolve the difficulties which led to a variety of improvised solutions. Among these solutions, many diverse groups searched for specific funding to install a server and locally store their databases. It follows that there are no reliable conditions for the installation of such servers in research groups (there is no continuous air conditioning, energy sources are not reliable and clean, there is no specialized staff to maintain the various servers installed, and there is not reliable backup). Usually, there is only maintenance when the equipments stop fucntioning. This situation overloads the ICT sector. The present project is designed to create a strategy to overcome this situation. The proposal is to create a large central storage where each research group can have a specific area to store the data. This will allow for a more controlled environment for data storing avoiding the drawbacks so far observed. The acquisition of a 100 terabits storage will be made, allowing for the central storage of data from research groups, under the adequate support and attentive care of the central ICT team. (AU)
