Abstract

The proposed project would investigating the novel O tempo e o vento by Erico Verissimo (1905-1975) and the plays gathered in Marta, a árvore e o relógio by Jorge Andrade (1922-1980) to explore the hypothesis that the link between land and region organize fictional subjects as well as would establish the difference that allows the formulation of a variety of local responses to modernity. Therefore, it is suggested a link between the land and region would sustain a counterpoint between traditional and modern, rural and urban that would structure the narratives and his dialogues with artistic and political contexts. So, it is realizing how different aesthetic formalism and various social pacts are re-articulated by defining different understandings also about social conflict. (AU)
