Abstract

The Researcher Visiting Proposal at the Art History Department, UNIFESP, directed to Professor Dr. Maurizio Ghelardi (Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, Italy), will include research collaboration, participation in teaching activities, co-supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, participation in research group meetings, conferences and must be exposed in three topics: 1) Professor Dr. Maurizio Ghelardi is one of the most important European researchers in the area of historiography of art. Member of the Scientific Committee for critical edition of Jacob Burckhardt's work, responsible for organizing and editing art-historical writings by Burckhardt in Italy, Switzerland and Germany. He is the editor for Getty Foundation (Los Angeles) of Burckhardt' work in English. He is responsible for organizing and editing, in Italy, the last great work of Heinrich Wölfflin, "Italy and the German sense of the form" (2001). M. Ghelardi took responsibility for organizing Italian edition of Aby Warburg work, which includes unpublished texts in the original language (German). In addition, he is collaborator of cultural activities of Louvre Museum (Paris), Warburg Institute (London) and Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence, and member of the Scientific Committee Graduierten Kolleg in Bonn. Among his major works there are: La scoperta del Rinascimento. L'eta di Raffaello di Jacob Burckhardt (1991) and Aby Warburg. La lotta per lo stile (2012). 2) The collaboration with the Visiting Researcher, Maurizio Ghelardi, began in 2001, when Prof. Responsible, Cássio Fernandes, fulfilled stage Doctoral "sandwich" for 18 months at the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, under the supervision of Maurizio Ghelardi and Sandro Barbera, resulting in the thesis presented in 2002 at UNICAMP: The figure of the man through word and image: autobiography and pictorial portrait in the Renaissance of Jacob Burckhardt. Since then, the academic contact between Prof. Responsible and the researcher guest has remained active, intensifying since 2009, when Ghelardi started to work in events and short courses in Minas Gerais (where Cássio Fernandes was professor) and then in São Paulo. Under the supervision of M. Ghelardi, Cássio Fernandes organized, translated and edited the writings of Jacob Burckhardt: The Portrait in Italian Renaissance Painting (Ed. UNICAMP/UNIFESP, 2012), currently, Cássio Fernandes develops a research funded by CNPq, focusing on art history and the works of Burckhardt, Warburg and Martin Wackernagel: "Collecting and artistic commitment in the Italian Renaissance civilization: a historiographical study" (Proc No. 471173/2013-4.). The arrival of Maurizio Ghelardi as Visiting Research will contribute to this project, because his research scope is similar and it will result in the organization and translation into Portuguese of unpublished texts of Aby Warburg. Thus, the stay at UNIFESP of Maurizio Ghelardi will be key to the development of this research, in addition to deepen collaboration between Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa and UNIFESP, institutions that are in the process of formalization of cooperation agreement. 3) This proposal is fundamental to strengthening the Art History Department and the Graduate Program in Art History of the Federal University of São Paulo. DHA was born with the creation of Bachelor of Art History, in 2009, a pioneering initiative in proposing the articulation of art with the Humanities and the first to be autonomously established in São Paulo. The Graduate Program in Art History, approved by CAPES in 2013, as a field of research and production of art-historical knowledge, has the historiography of art as a fundamental element. The contribution of the Visiting Researcher will contribute to the Department of Art History and to consolidate the Graduate Program in Art History in UNIFESP. (AU)
