Abstract

The ageing of the population has made the study of the elderly of the greatest importance for the social planning of the population that emerges in this century with this new profile. Chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, obesity and cancer are prevalent diseases worldwide and are associated with aging. Cardiovascular diseases and malignant neoplasms are the leading at present (RUIZ et al, 2006). Therefore, this project aims to develop a comparative study of the lifetimes of elderly populations with chronic diseases (diabetes, cancer, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, among others) having the Cox regression model as the starting point and allowing relax the of proportional hazards assumption by adapting cubic splines. This approach leads to a family of parametric models considered flexible in addressing these survival times. Follow-up studies of Brazil, Argentina and Italy will be evaluated in order to identify risk factors in the chronic diseases survival. Therefore, this project also includes the introduction of specific terms in order to take into account hierarchical variability coming from each study defining multilevel models. (AU)
