Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explain how some changes introduced by Winnicott in psychoanalysis partially result from clinical notions conveyed by modern existentialism (such as they are effectively found in psychiatric phenomenology, existentialist psychology and Daseinanalysis). Through the elucidation of such influences, both in ontologic foundations and the aknowledgment of certain phenomena and clinical problems not previously seen, I try to show how Winnicott broadened the understanding of the emotional development process, placing emphasis on the issue of the individual's dependence towards his environment, showing a descriptive understanding of this process and its phases. This type of analysis makes it possible to show why Winnicott's psychoanalysis may be considered as a psychoanalysis of the being. In addition and in this context it is possible to deepen the comprehension of the type of caring ethics that results from this perspective. (AU)
