Abstract
This project targets the physical properties of strongly correlated systems in condensed matter theory. Several problems will be studied, with various non-perturbative approaches. We are particularly interested in systems with reduced dimensions or reduced dimensionalities, such as nanostructures and the quantum Hall effect, magnetic or superconducting oxides, and disordered systems. An important chapter in the proposal is the development or the generalization of theoretical methods. Renormalization-group, bosonization and density-funcional approaches will be exploited. In short, our proposal is focused on a class of problems made attractive by their rich physics and made difficult by the many-body interactions underneath their surface. In the realm of such interactions, even qualitatively correct solutions demand special techniques. For this reason, our goals combine novel approaches with concrete results. (AU)
