Abstract

The development of adsorbent materials for further application in solid phase extraction procedures or metal preconcentration is an investigation field of chemical and chemical engineering that always kept highlighted due to need to monitor, to perform the matrix removal before analysis or to remove the sample contaminant. The direct determination of metals species existing in trace levels in natural water is generally difficult due to the presence of interfering species. The metals that will be determined, Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II) and Pb(II)are of environmental interest as a consequence of its widespread use and non degradability and may accumulate in compartments stating its toxicity. The aim of the present project is the use of polyvinyl chloride as solid support for the anchoring of a 4-amino-3hidrazino-5-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole molecule and its application in the preconcentration of metal species from aqueous samples. The developed material will be characterized through infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance of 13C (NMR), surface area measuring (BET method),elemental analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS)to attest the modification reaction occurrence. The material will be applied in adsorption studies to determine the maximum adsorption capacity, the optimum pH, the kinetics behavior and the influence of some interfering ions in the adsorption equilibrium. After adsorption experiments the material will be applied in the flow injection analysis (FIA) coupled to FAAS in order to determine Cu(II), Cd(II), Ni(II)and Pb(II)in water from Tietê River. The proposed method will be certified through the analysis of reference material of water (SEM 1643e) and sediment (IAEA-SL-1 and LKSD-3). (AU)
