Abstract

This project aims to develop analytical methods based on use of diffusive gradients in thin films technique (DGT) and in the coupling of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) (and/or atomic fluoresce spectrometry (AFS)) with liquid chromatography (LC) for speciation and fractionation of metal or metalloids in water and soil. In situ methods (based on DGT technique) for chemical fractionation and speciation analyses (or selective determination) in aquatic environment will be developed. This study will focus mainly species of Cd, Ni, Pb, V and Zn. For soils, we aim to develop and apply methods for redox speciation of As based on previous works for water analysis and new approaches involving DGT e DET (diffusive equilibrium in thin films techinique) techniques. The methods based on coupling the LC with ICP-MS will focus in the speciation analysis of Zn in seawater and As in soils. For soils samples, species of As(III) and As(V) will be determined. Main attention will be given to As(V) species since it is related to the herbicide MSMA (monossodium methylarsonate). The studies related to Zn speciation will focus Zn (II) (inorganic Zn) and organic Zn (e.g. some biocides like zinc pyrithione and Zinc diethyldithiocarbamate). Also we will evaluate the possibility to develop new methods for speciation analysis of Hg and Sn. (AU)
