Abstract

This project aims to develop pharmaceutical forms of modified release from the microencapsulation of drugs in sericin-alginate microparticles, which may allow better control of drug release rates in the body and / or delay drug release (formulations gastro) when administered orally, resulting in reduced side effects caused by toxic levels achieved due to the peak drug release into the bloodstream. Sericin used in this study will be obtained by the extraction process of the Bombyx mori cocoon species, while the alginate is commercially available. The drugs to be investigated are, at first, the diclofenac sodium and/or paracetamol as a model, and other pharmaceuticals to be defined according to the need for modified release formulation due to side effects caused by existing formulations, such as oxytetracycline, aceclofenac and valacyclovir.
