Abstract

The present study proposes experiments which seek to provide information on the relationship between urban atmospheric pollution and health. For this purpose, epidemiological and laboratorial techniques will be applied in the context of the city of São Paulo, constituting a set of experiments which seek: a) - to elaborate statistical models which aim to explore the relationship between mortality and pollution; b) - to study the possible relationships between atmospheric pollution and indicators of respiratory health in the infant population; c) - to evaluate the toxicity in vitro on the respiratory epithelium of inhalable particulated material present in the atmosphere of São Paulo. As will be demonstrated when setting out the detail of the study procedure, the implementation of this project requires the integration of different research groups, characterizing the profile of a thematic project.
