Abstract

This short course introduces students to the key links between classification of empirical phenomena, evolutionary theory, and the practice of scientific archeology. The course is taught as a semi-seminar: each section will include short presentations by the instructors and seminar discussion. At the end of the course, students should understand the unique characteristics of classification, in comparison with other methods of arrangement, the integration of classification and the theory of science, and the use of scientific development as a theoretical framework for archeology.
