Abstract
The research project of Professor Pierre Descouvemont involves the theoretical study of reactions induced by exotic weakly bound nuclei The method of coupled channels which is appropriate for such study, where the breakup process is important, will be used to calculate fusion, scattering and breakup cross sections of projectiles such as 7Li (a weakly bound nucleus) and 11Be (a one-neutron halo nucleus). The CC method itself (CDCC) will be further improved by taking into account many pseudo-states (representing the breakup continuum) in a statistical manner. It is expected that the proposed research will advance the field of reactions induced by exotic nuclei and makes possible the tratment of more complicated cases such as the case of two- or more cluster target nuclei.
