Abstract

The proposal of this project is to investigate reactions induced by radioactive ion beams and transfer reaction with astrophysics interest. The investigation of the nuclear structure of radioactive and exotic nuclei and the study of reactions relevant to Nuclear Astrophysics are the most active fields of nuclear physics in nowadays. Elastic scattering is a very powerful tool to study the structure of exotic nuclei. The description of the elastic scattering cross section is very sensitive to the interaction potential between the projectile and target nuclei and their structure. I intend in this project to continue on a systematic study by measuring angular distribution for the elastic scattering induced by radioactive beams 14C and 12B in the 58Ni target. These measurements would be of particular interesting to perform a comparative analysis with systems already measured, 10B, 11B, 8B and 10C + 58Ni. The radioactive beams 10C, 14C and 12B will be produced by RIBRAS system installed in São Paulo.Nuclear capture reactions of protons and neutrons have a key role in energy production, in the existence and in the evolution of astrophysical entities. In this project I am proposing to investigate the following reactions: i) The 10Be(p,4He)7Li transfer reaction, important for the primordial CNO cycle through the excitation function measurement of the resonant scattering 10Be+p using the thick target method.ii) The 22Na(p,gamma)23Mg capture reaction, which is important for understanding the O-Ne cycle and supernovae by the spectroscopic investigation of 23Mg. The 23Mg will be investigated by the 24Mg(3He,4He)23Mg transfer reaction to be measured in IPN-Orsay (France). I am also proposing in this project to improve the detection system to detect and identify low energy isotopes of boron and carbon through the installation of a gas detector whose effective thickness would be less than 10 microns-m. With this new detection system we can increase the total solid angle and the angular range gaining statistic for our measures. (AU)
