Abstract

The Project " Phanerogamic flora of the State of São Paulo" began in 1994, with funding mostly from FAPESP, under the coordination of Dr. Hermogenes de Freitas Leitão Filho - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Dr. Ana Maria Giulietti - Universidade de São Paulo and Dra. Maria das Graças Lapa Wanderley - Instituto de Botânica, with collaborators in several Brazilian and foreign institutions. After the death of Dr. Hermogenes, Dra. Maria das Graças Lapa Wanderley coordinated the Project until 2013. During this period, the publications produced based on data generated by the Project were the "Red Book of the Endangered Species of São Paulo" (1998) and the "Checklist of Spermatophyta from the State of São Paulo" (2010), the latter comprising 195 families, 1,776 genera and 7,305 native species. The main product of the project, however, is the Phanerogamic Flora of the State of São Paulo, a serial publication with seven volumes launched so far, including the monographs of 151 families, 722 genera and 3237 species, about 44% of the total species of Phanerogams found in the State. In addition to the monographs already published, there are two large and important manuscripts, one of them ready for publication, the treatment of the family Fabaceae, and another one still being edited, the family Myrtaceae, besides some other treatments of small families. Because of the difficulties and the high cost of a print publication, as well as aiming a wider dissemination and a faster publication of this work, the current co-ordination with the approval of the previous coordinators, the rights holders of the works on paper, decided that the next volumes will be published online, becoming available for free consultation at the Botanical Institute website. Also the volumes already printed will be available online. Thus the present request relates to the online publication of volumes 1-7, which need only be suitable for publication online as well as volume 8 that still needs to be fully edited. (AU)
