Abstract

Recent advances in communication technologies, collaboration systems, social networks and cost reduction in mobile electronic devices to customers allowed significant changes in the daily lives of individuals, organizations and society. However, the attractiveness and diversity of applications of these information technologies for individual use may cause negative impacts to its users: the compulsive use of these resources. In this context, this study aims to understand the compulsive use of certain information technologies can cause negative effects on professional perceptions, such as distraction, stress, social isolation and other possibilities. The methodology has a quantitative approach. Users of information and communication technologies will be interviewed, which collected data will be analyzed by multivariate data techniques using structural equation modeling. This research project will produce two studies. The first study will evaluate the extent of compulsive use of instant messaging technology can affect social aspects and individual concentration. The second study has the purpose to evaluate whether the stress caused by information technology can result in negative effects on the perceptions of professionals within the scope of their activities.
